Spiced Apples


12 medium sized crisp apples

1 cup apple juice

1 Tsp cinnamon

1/4 Tsp allspice

2 Tsp grated orange peel or zest

5 Tsp cornstarch


Core,peel and slice apples.

Put apple slices,3/4 cup apple juice,cinnamon and allspice in an appropriate size pan.

Bring mixture to a boil then reduce heat.

Add orange peel/zest,cover and simmer for 20 min or until apples are tender but still a little crisp.

Mix the remaining 1/4 cup apple juice with the cornstarch.

Add cornstarch mix to the cooking apples and continue cooking,stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened.

Serve warm as is or serve over ice cream,angel food cake,pound cake,etc.
