Chili with Tortilla Dumplings


1 onion-chopped

2 garlic cloves-minced

1 tbsp oil

2 lb hamburger

2 15 1/2 oz kidney beans-rinsed and drained

1 28 oz cn diced tomatoes

1 14 1/2 oz can chicken or beef broth

2 tbsp chili powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp oregano

1/2 tsp salt

4 7 inch flour tortillas


In a large,deep skillet,saute the onion and garlic in the oil for 3 minutes.

Add the hamburger and cook til it is done.

Drain off the oil.

Add the beans,tomatoes,broth,chili powder,cumin,oregano and salt.

Raise heat to hig and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer for about an hour.

Halve each tortilla and cut into 1/4 inch strips.

Stir tortilla strips gently into the chili.

Cover and simmeer for 8-10 minutes or til tortillas are soft.
