Zesty Colorado Chili


1 lb Italian sausage links

1 lb pork shoulder

2 lb hamburger

2 onions-chopped

1 tbsp garlic-minced

1 green pepper-chopped

1 29 oz can tomato puree

1 28 oz can diced tomatoes

1 cup beef broth

1 jalapeno pepper-seeded and minced

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp vinegar

2 tsp chili powder

2 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

1 tsp basil

1 tsp oregano

1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce

2 15 1/2 oz cans kidney beans-drained and rinsed


Cut sausage links into 1/2 inch pieces.

Trim the fat from the pork and chop meat into 1/2 in cubes.

Combine the sausages,pork and hamburger and cook til browned.

Drain off grease,saving 1 tbsp of the drippings.

Saute the onion,garlic and green pepper in the reserved drippings.

Place all ingredients except for the beans in a large pot.

Bring to a boil over high heat then reduce heat to low,cover and simmer for 1 hour.

Add the beans and cook til heated through.
