Croutes


Ingredients


2 loaves French bread

1/4 cup butter (or as much as needed)


Directions

Thinly slice bread on the diagonal.

Spread each slice (both sides)with a thin layer of butter.

Place in a single layer on a baking sheet and place in a 350 deg oven.

When bottoms are golden brown (5-8 min),turn slices over and return the pan to the oven for another 3-5 min until bottoms are again golden brown.

Remove from oven and cool completely.

Store in an airtight container and they will last for several weeks.

Use French bread for creamy soups or use hearty breads, such as whole grains or rye,for thick and zesty soups.
