Grandma C's Spice Cake


1/2 cup butter

1 1/2 cups light brown sugar

2 eggs

1 cup sour milk*

2 Tsp ground cinnamon

1 Tsp ground nutmeg

1 Tsp ground cloves

1/4 Tsp salt

1 Tsp vanilla

2 1/2 cups flour

1 Tsp baking soda

1/2 Tsp baking powder


Cream butter and brown sugar.

Add in the remaining ingredients and beat 2 minutes on medium speed until everything is well blended.

Line 2 8 or 9 inch cakepans with butter and floured waxed paper or parchment paper.

Divide batter between the pans.

Bake at 350 deg for 25 min or until cake tests done.

Cool and top with your favorite icing.

*To make sour milk, add 1 Tbsp of fresh lemon juice or white vinegar to enough fresh milk to equal 1 cup. Use in recipes as a substitute for sour milk or buttermilk.
