Old Time Vinegar Taffy

2 cups sugar

1/8 tsp. Cream of tarter

2 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup white vinegar

Few grains salt

Combine all ingredients in a heavy pot, bring to a boil and cook to "hard ball" stage (250-266 deg).

Pour onto a lightly buttered flat dish and let it cool enough to be handled.

Spread butter over both your hands, pick up the cooled mixture and begin "pulling" it between your hands, stretching, folding it over and stretching again and again until it becomes white and porous.

Break or cut into small pieces.

This is a fun thing to do at church or other gatherings. Only let children do this supervised so they won't suffer burns if they don't let it cool enough.
