Gingersnaps 1
Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter
1 egg-beaten
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp orange peel
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp cardamon
1/4 tsp cloves
2 1/2 cup flour
Directions
In a heavy pan,mix the sugar,molasses,shortening and butter and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat,cook and stir on low til boiling again.
Cook for another 2 minutes.
Cool for at least 45 minutes.
Pour into a bowl and add the eggs,spices and baking soda.
Add the flour,1/3 at a time,mixing well after each addition.
Divide the dough in half and form into balls.
Wrap each ball in plastic wrap and chill 2-24 hours.
Using one ball at a time,roll out to 1/8 inch thickenss on a lightly floured surface.
Cut shapes as desired.
Bake,on a greased cookie sheet,at 375 for 5-6 minutes.
