Pinwheels


Ingredients


1/2 cup shortening

1 square melted chocolate
(sweet or semisweet)

1/2 cup sugar

3 Tbsp milk

1 well beaten egg

1 1/2 cups flour

1/8 Tsp salt

1 Tsp vanilla

1 1/2 Tsp baking powder


Directions


Cream the butter and gradually add in the sugar.

Add in the egg.

Sift flour,remeasure and sift again with the baking powder and salt together.

Add dry ingredients slowly to the creamed mixture alternating with the milk.

Stir in the vanilla.

Divide cookie dough in half and add the melted chocolate to one portion.

On lightly floured board, roll the plain dough to 1/8" thick.

Repeat rolling with chocolate dough.

Place the chocolate dough over the plain dough and press firmly together.

Roll dough into a log.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hrs.

Cut into thin slices and place on well oiled cookie sheet.

Bake at 425 deg for 10-12 min. being careful not to let get too brown.

Note; A small amount food coloring may be used instead of chocolate or plain layer.
