1 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 cup shortening

1 cup chopped fruit

1/2 Tsp baking soda

2 Tsp baking powder

1 Tsp cinnamon

1 cup chopped nuts

2 well beaten eggs

2/3 cup sour milk

1 1/2 cups rolled oats
(not quick cooking or instant)

2 cups cake flour

1/2 Tsp ground cloves

1/2 Tsp salt


Cream the shortening and sugar.

Add the eggs and beat well.

Sift the cake flour,salt,baking powder,baking soda and spices together.

Add the rolled oats and mix well.

Alternate adding milk and dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.

Stir in the nuts and fruit.

Drop by spoonful onto well oiled cookie sheet.

Bake at 375 deg for 12 minutes.
