2 cups milk

5 egg yolks, slightly beaten

1/8 Tsp salt

1 cup sugar

1 Tsp vanilla

1 cup heavy cream

8 maraschino cherries, finely chopped

2 Tbsp minced candied orange peel

8 slivered blanched almonds

2 Tbsp brandy


In top part of a double boiler mix milk egg yolks, salt, and 3/4 c. of the sugar.

Cook over simmering water, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and coats the back of a metal spoon.

Cool, then add vanilla and almonds.

Freeze until almost firm.

Line a 2qt.mold or bowl with the mixture.

Whip cream until stiff then fold in remaining sugar, cherries, peel and brandy.

Fill center of mold with this mixture, cover and freeze until firm.

Invert onto a serving plate and cut into wedges.
