Bread and Butter Pickles
Ingredients
5 med. cucumbers
3 med. onions
1/4 cup salt
1 cup vinegar
1/2 Tsp. celery seed
1 cup water
1/2 Tsp. mustard seed
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 Tsp. ginger
1/4 Tsp. turmeric
Directions
Wash cucumbers and slice to desired thickness.
Peel and thinly slice the onion.
In a large bowl, mix cucumbers, onions and the salt.
Let stand 2 hrs.
Add the vinegar, celery seed, water, mustard seed, sugar, ginger, and turmeric in a large pan and bring to a boil.
Add the cucumbers and onions.
Return to a boil and boil slowly until tender.
Pack in sterileized jars and seal.
